After reading the reviews for this game, I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy it. I’m a simp for space horror though, so I bought it on a whim to give it a try.
While it’s definitely rough in spots, I definitely enjoyed my experience.
The combat feels appropriately weighty and hits feel (and sound) like they hurt. Switching between melee, telekinesis and firearms add a sense of urgency and experimentation to each encounter.
Limited inventory space can be frustrating, but harkens back to old survival horror.
The game looks incredible and is unafraid to show off some really indulgent, gory renders of Josh Duhamel should you find yourself in a death animation.
Some of the combat encounters were definitely overwhelming (even after the latest patch) but they really had me considering the most efficient approach in a way I haven’t in quite some time.
Unfortunately there are some repeated boss fights and set-pieces near the end of the game, and I don’t love the fact that there are some “traps” in the game that just feel like an altogether unavoidable way to take damage.
That said, if you’re a fan of works like Event Horizon or Dead Space, there’s probably something here for you to enjoy.
